Adam N Eve

(Sizzle Dress in Rouge with Seductress heels in Teal).
This Tuesday night from 6-8 PM SLT, the Bee Hive will showcase the amazing designs of Adam N Eve. Now, I'm 150 shades of excited. Truth be known, I've IMed and sent notecards to many, many designers. Some have responded positively (and you will be lucky enough to find them at the Showcase on Tuesday nights), and a few have responded to politely decline. And then there are the others. The ones who don't even bother to respond.

Well, I have to be 100% honest and tell you Sachi Vixen was the first clothing designers to say yes without hesitation. She was extremely receptive to my ideas and happy to take part in the Showcase.

And I confessed to her that being able to IM with her was like meeting a rockstar.

It’s no secret – I *love* shopping.

So to those of you who love music..my meeting Sachi is like your meeting Sarah McLachlan (Crighton), or Bono (KIM!), Marc Broussard (Moooo) in SL – get it? Sachi Vixen was a name I only knew from making purchases at Adam N Eve.

But she’s been amazing to work with – and extremely nice. The very first time I shopped in Adam N Eve was around Christmas time when Kaarl and Bev gave me a gift certificate to the store. I picked out my black and silver Dare to be Dress. When I sent the note card and certificate to Sachi, she promptly sent me my dress, and then also sent me Dare to Be in crimson with best wishes for a wonderful holiday. I was GIDDY. So insanely giddy. My Dare to Be dress is still one of my favorite dresses in my exploding inventory. Since Christmas, I have purchased many, many more outfits and SHOES. Oh my goodness. The SHOES are just drool worthy.

I recently went mini-dress shopping and I found my Sizzle dress (in rouge). The dress is great – with so many jewel toned colors on it – finding the right shoe would be a mission. Or so I thought. It really wasn’t. A quick trip into the Adam N Eve shoe department brought me to the Seductress shoes. I loved the shoe style SO much, I bought it in teal and purple. The purple, incidentally, also matches the new Vertical dress (in amethyst) I bought from Adam N Eve as well.

And the new Sex and the City outfits Sachi’s rolling out? Amazing! I’ve already bought the Samantha outfit in red.

FYI – they’re also rolling out new bikinis designed out of various country flags. I, of course, will be rocking my USA bikini for this July 4th – I suggest you grab one too for whatever country you represent.

So. I do hope to see you all tomorrow night at the Adam N Eve showcase. Bring your lindens – I know I will!

XOXO,

B

You, Me and The Hulk..

So I have a guilty little confession.

I’m a comic book junkie.

Always have been, and I always will be.

I’m mainly an X-Men girl..in love with the stories, the art and the ASS KICKING!

Something about the fantastic..and the unsual is alluring – seductive, almost.

Something about the ability to do more than an average human..to create fire from your fingertips, control the weather, move things with your mind..it’s so amazing. Just the CONCEPT..the “what if?” scenario. What if I could..what would I do? Would I be a hero? Would I be a villain? Would I live life quietly, wishing I never had that ability?

Let’s just say..I could go ON and ON about this forever. LOL

Moving on to my original point..

We went to see The Incredible Hulk today..and I’ve gotta say..

I love the Hulk.

Just..in general. I love the story of Bruce Banner..and the way he IS a good guy – just with a small Jekkyl and Hyde problem.

But hey, who here doesn’t have a temper of SOME kind? Even the kindest soul has a limit.

Admit it 0 you know..we all have that problem – not to the Hulk’s extent..but when enough’s enough..come on! Who here hasn’t had a single moment where they’ve thought of kicking someone 500 feet away because they’re ANNOYING as all heck?

So anyway, back to my love of the Hulk.

He’d make a great boyfriend, I think. He’s very manly..and to the point..and loyal, I bet..and probably kinda snuggly. And..uhm..you know..HA! I’ll keep the rest to myself.

He’s a hero ultimately – though he may not feel like one. He fights because he HAS to. He has to defend himself..to defend his love..to defend those around him from others like him. An unlikely hero, so to speak.

Do you watch superhero movies? Superman..Batman..X-Men..Spiderman..Iron-Man..Hulk..? Do you walk out of the theater feeling powerful? Unstoppable? Untouchable! I do. I always feel like..I live in this world..of bills, responsibility and work. But. I belong on that other world. The world filled with the fantastic..the unimaginable..the unbelievable. I belong in a black leather costume saving the world – helping people, yet looking amazingly sexy at the same time. I belong in an invisible jet..or flying through the night sky with my own cool cape.

Ah well.

Back to the real world. Back to work. And bills. And cooking. And leather being unacceptable in a work environment.

*sigh*

A Tuesday Like Today..

Last night we were hanging at the Magzndixon Line while Crighton played.it turned into an outfit changing show..a past outfits show and a theme show. Poor Crighton.

And then the topic of 9/11 came up.

And I had so much to say..but so little to say at the same time.

It's been a long time, I guess. I don't know if time really healed the wounds..or if time simply allowed a thick scab to grow - enough so we could all function - leaving the wound there..able to open up at any time.

In 2001 I was still in college - four blocks from the WTC. If you've never been, there was an amazing section (7) with a giant Borders bookstore and a concourse level with some amazing stores - the Warner Brother Store, Victoria Secret, Crabtree & Evelyn, etc. I spent most of my breaks between class there. Benches were arranged outside for relaxing and eating lunch, the Wall Street people wandered out of their madhouse to mingle with the rest of us..and the mix was always fun out there.

I lived with my parents, my sister, her husband and my nephew. My dad wasn't yet retired from his job - but he didn't go into work until about noon most days.

So he babysat my nephew until my sister came home to work the rest of the day out of our home office.

On this day, he went to take his blood test (after heart valve replacement surgery, he has to take blood thinners and get his blood checked regularly to maintain the correct level of thick/thin). So I fed my nephew, who was now one year and nine days old, and thought about my own impending 21st birthday in six days. We were going to all go away - my family, my aunt's household. A giant group of us to the Jersey Shore for one last weekend before the cold weather came. I never would end up taking that trip.

My dad came home and took the baby. I hopped into the shower - class started at 11. I needed to be out of the house by 9:30 so I could make my morning stop at Au Bon Pain and then head to class. So I started to shampoo my hair..and there was massive banging at the bathroom door. I don't know why, but all I could think of was that something had happened to the baby. So I come flying out of the bathroom, wrapped in my towel with shampoo still in my hair. My dad was running down the hallway to his room and I followed.

"Look." And I did. He pointed at the television which showed a building on fire. Thick puffs of black smoke spilled out of the building and the weather announcer was freaking out on air. He wasn't meant to do this job - but he'd been giving the morning weather and traffic report from the helicopter and had been in the wrong place at the wrong time. I sat down on the bed and stared.

That wasn't just some building. That was the WTC. And..it wasn't some little Cessana like usual. No. It was a big plane.

So my dad ran down the stairs to go call my mom and sister and make sure they were okay. They were - they worked in Mid-Town.

My nephew sat on the floor lining up his little cars quietly.

And then the weather man was freaking out. And he wasa screaming. "Oh God..there's another plane..no..no it can't be." And I watched. Horrified.

The second plane hit and everything was in flames. People were screaming and running and the phone lines went dead.

Completely dead.

We couldn't call anyone..and nobody could call us.

My hair was dripping down onto the bed now. I ran back into the shower and quickly washed it out. My hands were shaking. I don't think I conditioned or anything. I stumbled out of the bathroom and got dressed in sweats and a hoodie. It was September, but I waas shivering. And I was scared.

My nephew was asleep in my dad's bed and I crawled in next to him and we watched the news. They showed the people that were jumping - escaping one horrible death only to find another. The bloody, the soot covered. They were all there on tv. It felt so unreal..and yet..I knew it wasn't. It was very much real.

And when Tower 2 fell, I felt cried. My dad cried. The new reporters cried.

How..?

Who..?

Why..?

Life is so precious..WHY would anyone do this? What had these people done wrong - except go to work?

And the reports started swirling in. Some fact, some guesses.

And my mind wandered. My immediate family was safe, thank God. But. My neighbor and train riding buddy worked for Transit.

I put my still wet hair in a bun and put my slippers on. His wife didn't work, she'd be home to tell me he was okay.

So I came down my steps and she was sitting on her steps with her telephone in her hand.

No.

No. She's waiting for someone else to call.

She must be.

Her eyes were red. "He called. After the first plane hit. He was out and safe. Said he was going back for his team." She looked at the phone again. "I haven't heard from him since." And my heart sank. I don't think any of us knew then she'd be sitting on those steps for four days.

He never would come home again. She'd move..trying to find peace. For herself and her kids.

God, I feel sick.

My friend Annette worked for Windows of the World. Top floor of the WTC. Amazing restaurant. Very posh.

She called her mom. What must it be like to know you're about to die? What do you do when you're a mother on the other end of the phone?

She never came home again, either. We never did shots again. Her voice has faded slightly from my memory..but not completely. Sometimes I hear someone laugh and I pause..thinking she's come back in some Lifetime movie fashion.

But no.

What did she do wrong to deserve this? What horrible thing did she do..to die this way? To have her life cut so short..?

I've gotten up and left this post three times now.

Something about remembering my friends..my old stomping grounds..it makes me feel hollow.

The lost servicemen..who ran in while everyone else tried to run out..those images are haunting. Their pictures still line firehouses throughout Manhattan. Pictures of heroes lost.

I went back to school when downtown was reopened a week or so later. National Guard stopped everyone for ID and their purpose there. Soot lingered on everything. And the smell.

The stench of a thousand burning dreams - forever gone. Of countless lost loves. Lost children. Lost laughter never to be heard again.

The stench made me gag when I came up the subway steps. Every day. And the fires burned for days. And like the hope that so many clung to for their loved one, it slowly died.

Businesses shut down for good. The little stores that made downtown so great.

Every pole, post, wall, door..was covered with MISSING posters. Countless faces forever lost. Flowers littered the streets..the missing posters..the fence sealing off Ground Zero from public access.

I was standing in a giant cemetary. There was no easy way to put it. No easy way to comprehend the destruction and loss that 9/11 brought to everyone. There was no way to understand or accept the loss.

Eventually..the world continued. Before we knew it, there was a one year anniversary of the event.

Then two.

Then five.

I don't know.

It feels so long ago..yet it's all so vivid.

People still sport their 'We will never forget' stickers. Sometimes I want to ask what they won't forget. Is it someone? Is it their own story of running for their life? Or was it just trendy?

And don't get me started on the people who pose for pictures infront of Ground Zero.

Or the people who stole money donated to help the relief workers and the families.

If you've sat through this post to this point, thank you. Maybe this was just something I needed to get off of my chest. I've never felt so tired after a blog post.

My world changed that day - everyone's did, I think. But..for the first time in my selfish life..I realized that life is not promised. No matter how good or honest you are. No matter what shoes you wear, what designer's name is on your ass - it won't save you or keep you safe.

I went to see Kung Fu Panda with my nephew on Saturday. And I give you this little bit of old wisdom which I've heard many times:

Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. And today is a gift. That is why we call it the present.

Don't forget. Never. Any of it. Or any of them.

My Inner Fashionista..

Okay, when did fashion become such a big part of my SLife?

I mean, I knew I loved playing dress up in SL. I loved that from day one.

I wore all KINDS of freebie outfits. I didn’t have any standards. I lived in the 50L store. I was a big spender back then. Every linden of prize money went to the 50L store where I bought new outfits daily. I even camped out at the store’s lucky chair and won quite a few outfits.

Now, I’m a fashion snob, I think. I’ve acquired a few favorite designers and stuck with them. The “look” of certain outfits turn me off and I refuse to buy them – too reminiscent of my freebie wearing days, I think.

Yesterday I slipped on my Posh Spice hair and scooted over to a fashion show at To the Nines for LBD LeeZu Baxter Designs entitled “Little Black Dress”. The sim was PACKED. Luckily, there was a seat in the front row just waiting for me. So I hopped in and started looking around.

If you look very carefully, you can see me in my black pantsuit set with white belt. Yep. There I am – grinning like a fool.

I loved every second of it. It was almost like a fashion Who’s Who of Second Life. I saw names I’ve only ever seen when making PURCHASES.

So here are just a few quick snaps I took (I didn’t want to look TOO tourist-like..LOL).

Everything took a very long time to rezz for me, so I can’t comment much on the clothing presented – what did rezz was beautiful and I plan on going back to buy some things soon.

My new friend Francesca was in the fashion show (and the one kind enough to invite me) – she looked stunning, FYI.

I’ve realized, the further I delve into working on the Fashion Showcase, the more interesting people I meet. And every day in SL is fun when you get to meet new people and learn new things and BUY MORE CLOTHES!

Now if only Maitreya would hop on the showcase bandwagon before I stage a sit-in. LOL!

Until next time,

Fashion Showcase #1: ~flirt~

So last night was the first featured designer of the Fashion Showcase at the Bee Hive, ~flirt~. Skinkie Winkler set up some amazing pieces, put out some freebies and even donated three exclusive pieces to the club for the contest winners.

A tiny pony wandered in and was kind enough to keep my company while I sent out notices and handled last minute IMs.

I can’t even lie, though. I was NERVOUS.

What if nobody showed? What if I had just wasted Skinkie’s time?

And then BrookeMaree gave me a buzz. She was coming, and sending a notice out to her group too. Skinkie was sending one to ~flirt~ and FashionCon. I covered the Bee Hive group and Borday’s group.

And in seconds the first person appeared.

And then the second.

And then there were fifteen.

And the number rose and fell and rose.

My usual faves like Jessa came by (in dragon form no less!).

People came for the jewelry, came for the freebies and came for the contest of most creative profile picture. And then..they stayed. We laughed, and joked..and had a good club time (the pony even scripted a pony dance!).

Aeryn and Kim came by (but they forgot their freebies..how does one forget freebies?!) and supported the showcase. Carly and Josh stayed the night with us, modeling their own ~flirt~ jewelry for everyone to see.

And Sachi from Adam N Eve even popped in for a moment sporting new Brad Pitt-ish skin she was making.

The night was amazing. The Showcase was amazing. And the people that took time out of their schedules to party with us were amazing! I can’t thank you all enough. I really appreciate everyone that supports us at the Bee Hive.

And so you know, I’ve been dipping my pixilated fingers in all kinds of pots – so I’m not ignoring anyone. I do have a few non-fashion/non-club things on my plate that I’m setting up and working hard on. I hope to share those soon!

Thank you Skinkie for working with me on this. You are an AMAZING jewelry designers.. :) and a wonderful friend as well.

And of course, the most fabulous Borday is there, at my side, not complaining at all through my wacky ideas. So I extend a special thank you and SMOOCH to him. He’s the Desi to my Lucy. Hoooooo!

In the meantime, I’ll keep going, trying to lure more designers in with my charm.

See you at the next fashion showcase! July 1st will be Adam N Eve! I’m so psyched about it – and you should be too!

Thunderstruck!

So, have you ever looked at someone’s profile picture and thought..“Wow..that’s amazing..I wonder how they did that?”.

Me too.

So I decided to get a professional SL picture taken.

I pulled out my cell phone and called BrookeMaree Gossipgirl and asked her for some help with the matter.

You see, Brooke owns Thunderstruck – a photography studio.

And in her usual cheerful form, she was kind enough to take me in and help me out.

So while she set up shop, using my idea of “post-party” as the picture theme, I wandered her store. The sample pictures were amazing. Great poses..lighting..theme..the whole nine. I couldn’t believe these were even avis being photographed.

I got so excited just WAITING, when the time came, I was bubbling over to see the results.

And I sincerely encourage you to visit her store (the LM is in my picks) and get your own pic done. You won’t be sorry – I definitely wasn’t! I even plan on going back for some more.

If you have any questions, IM me! I’ll be more than happy to help you out. She’s even given me her pricing list, so I can send that to you as well. She’s a great photographer and a doll to work with. And if you ever have a few spare moments? She’s a damn good DJ too.

So I just wanted to share with you the two pics she did for me.

Thanks, Brooke!

Friendship SL Style

So yesterday I got to talking to a friend of mine. And I got to thinking how alike we were..even though she half a world away from me.

Now..imagine this..I met her in a crowded room of 30 or so avis. We were sitting on couches across from each other chatting about fashion at random. I loved her dress and she loved my boots.

And thus, a friendship was born.

The thing about SL is that friendships can be forged over the simplest things. Shoes, hair, clothes, lucky chairs and music.

Anyway, so we were talking about SL and how funny it is that people sometimes make more of a concentrated effort to 'pay it forward' in SL than in RL. We agreed on the common attitude of..'you get what you give'. If you try to be a good person..it's more than likely that the people involed will try and return the same treatment.

True, no? If someone's always pleasant towards you - says hello, how are you, etc., aren't you more inclined to be equally as pleasant to them? Now if someone sees you..and consistently looks through you like glass..well..you're more inclined to give them the finger, aren't you?

So here's the thing. I get that some people don't like me for whatever reason.

But at the end of the day, I can always say to myself that I tried to spread good karma.

I try my best to take care of the people around me. I try to IM my friends at least once a day. I try to invite them wherever I am and wherever I know they will be comfortable. I try to spread myself around so that nobody feels used or neglected. I try to share with others - sale info, shopping LMs and food. I try to attend every party I am invited to - and believe me, in SL that's some job. I try to remember all important dates to the people around me. I try to catch my dj friends at least once a week. I try to shop from the various stores/shops of my friends. And I try to be tactful and honest at the same time.

It's a lot of trying, but when you can IM someone and have them tell you that they've had a shitty day and your sending them a random gift card just brightened it up that much..well..it's worth it.

And yes, I do delete people I don't IM with. I only keep my friends and people I really like on my friends list. I don't keep strangers on or accept random friendships. I don't see the point.

:) So I'm happy I'm always busybusy in SL with my friends. I think I'd go nuts if I sat in one spot for too long.

So pay it forward because what you sow today, you will reap tomorrow.

And investing in your loved ones is the best investment of all. :)

Happy Father's Day!

I think I’ve already expressed how much my dad means to me – and how great I think he is.

But let me just say.

Going to baseball games with my dad as a kid was always fun. We’d pile into the car, head to Shea Stadium as a family.

When we got out of the car to walk around, I’d hold my dad’s pinky finger..because his hands were (and still are) that much bigger than mine.

And we’d sit down to watch the game. EVERY vendor that came by made a stop at us.

I’d have ice cream, and hot dogs a soda and cotton candy and Cracker Jacks and peanuts..

And then I’d fall asleep.

Like clockwork.

And dad would carry me back to the car when the game was over.

And let me tell you, this founded my love of baseball – a true love of food. LOL

And recently we went to the Mets game.

Except now I have seats where waiters come to you and serve you off of a menu. Sure vendors walk by..but it’s not the same.

And I don’t fall asleep anymore. I stay awake – and I actually watch the game.

But I still hold his hand when we walk back to the car – mostly to help him now. But every now and then, I hold his pinky finger..and I feel six years old again.

And you know what?

I like it.

Happy Father’s Day, dad! And to all of the other dads out there that can and will always make their children feel like children (in a good way), when they may need it most.

The Fashion Showcase Begins!

Okay, so I’ve been secretly bubbling over with the giddy.

A few weeks ago I had this brilliant idea (I think all of my ideas are brilliant – just ask Borday).

A Fashion Showcase at the Bee Hive.

I mean, think about!

It’s PURE GENIUS!

Designers get exposure, the club gets exposure, DJ Borday gets exposure, I get to work with some of my FAVORITE designers ever! It’s win/win for everyone.

So I IMed Busybee Beaver, dumping my brain spasms onto her. And as usual, she was receptive.

So I got busy. I IMed first and foremost, Skinkie Winkler. Skinkie is the creator behind ~flirt~ jewelry. If you’ve never seen it, you MUST. Very beautiful, very classic, very trendy. And Skinkie, as in the past, was very positive about the venture and eager to work with me. If you’re interested, please check out the ~flirt~ blog at http://flirtacious.wordpress.com/ .

Now I was REALLY bubbling with the giddy. I IMed two of my other favorite designers – this time clothing – Sachi Vixen from Adam N Eve and Tuli Asturias from []::Tuli::[]. Both designers were also very receptive to the idea and happy to take part as well.

Could it be? Could the creators of the very clothes I covet be interested in working with me at the Bee Hive for a showcase? Now I’m just bouncing around – beyond excited. What’s beyond excited you ask? Me!

So now, I won’t lie. I haven’t the foggiest clue how this will go.

It could be a total flop. Nobody could show.

I could be wasting everyone’s time.

Now if I thought like that, I’d never try anything. Ever.

So I plow ahead. Booking more creators/designers/builders and planting them each two weeks apart.

I’m honored to say that Beverly Zauberflote from Witchy Woman Designs and Aeryn Lovenkraft from Lovenkrafted Shapes have also agreed to hop on board and take part in the Showcase.

So I’m just hoping nobody changes their mind. I’m hoping people show up. And, I suppose, above all else, I’m hoping this is a positive experience for everyone involved.

So, if you’re reading this and interested in taking part in the showcase, please drop me an IM or notecard. I’d be happy to speak with you and work things out.

SO! Beginning June 17th from 6-8 PM SLT, the Fashion Showcase kicks off with ~flirt~ and will run through the summer with some of the best and brightest in Second Life. I hope to see you there – even if it’s for a moment.

And now, I’m going to take my super giddy..super excited butt to bed.

Thanks for reading this far.

And if you want to help..please IM me! I’d love the help! Before every featured designer, I will post about them and whatever outfits/goods I own from them. :) So stay tuned!

SL Questions..

Okay, borrowed this from Kim who borrowed from Joonie..

SL Bloggers - If there was one thing on the grid that you could snap your fingers and it would be gone forever, what would it be and why?

Hmm.

I guess..I wouldn’t get rid of anything.

Even the bad stuff.

Everything happens for a reason.

And everything has its place.

SL Bloggers - Where do you go to shop when you just need some retail therapy? Do you suffer from buyers remorse later? What is the most expensive thing in your inventory?

OH BOY!

Cupcakes, Indyra, ICING, Love.Love.Love, Maitreya, WWD..

Buyer’s remorse ? Sometimes. Mostly with the freebie crap I pick up.

Most expensive thing? A 1,500L yoga mat. But I use it and love it. And finally have the prims to put it out! Hooooo!

The Beach Test

What the Beach Test Says About You

You like people, but you're careful about who you get close to. Friendship is important to you... so important that you aren't just friends with anyone.

You fall in love with ease and confidence. Even if you've had bad experiences in the past, each new love is a reason to start completely over.

You are a deep and contemplative person. You are as passionate as everyone else, but your passion is not always apparent.

Your sense of humor is very physical. Your facial expressions or spot on imitations of people are hilarious.

Home Sweet..New Home?

So it seems like I just moved, no? From Sporks’ home of Deyo to Blissie’s Retreat in Bayou. Well, get ready. We’ve moved again. This time, we’ve moved to Marinero. Hooo!

A sailing sim for Moo with prims aplenty for me to gobble up. Like Hannah, it’s the best of both worlds!

I finally have a WHOLE kitchen out – WITH FOOD! I’ve even got my beloved cupcakes out! You can’t imagine my excitement. Moo has his pirate niche and I have my beachy snuggle spots.

And our snowy skybox? Well. It’s gone.

That’s not to say we won’t have a snowy spot again someday – just not right now.

But I have some great stuff out to play with – spots to just hang out and chat.

And the most excellent Beverly Zauberflote (from Witchy Woman Designs – where you MUST go if you’ve never been) who custom designed my beloved Blissie Tulip furniture (which you can buy too!) even gave me the thumbs up last night for the island. (Funny side story. I gave Bev the LM to the island so she could wander freely. So after Moo’s show we get home exhausted, get into our kinda nekkid clothes and then POOF..Bev appears on the bridge. And I’m laughing, and Borday’s looking for pants..and it was just awesomely funny..and it’s the kind of thing that makes you laugh the next day..). Thanks, Bev!

Our house is down on the island, so I welcome you to pop in and look around (though, the house has security and only a select few are built in – so..you may want to drop me an IM first..LOL).

If you have a boat, feel free to come down and sail around. There are ten sims you can sail to. There’s a carpet ride through the entire area at the main hub.

All in all, it’s a pretty nice place. And yes, I’ll be having a party soon.

I hope to see you drop by the island.
