Here's the story..of a lovely red dress.
This isn't a fashion blog. At all. Believe me.
See, it's a story of how a dress can be more than just a dress to a girl.
You see, I was dancing in this club one night. It was right after my heart had been shattered in SL, and I was (as the Jersey Shore guys put it) in creep mode. You see, I was DONE. No more relationships..or romances..or anything of the sort.
So anyway, the theme at this seedy club was something lame like..Good Girls vs. Bad Girls. Well, I owned a sweet bra and boyshorts set that said Bad Girl right across the ass. What? We all own something tacky - come on.
So anyway.
I wore this outfit to the club. Had my girls Joonie and Nina with me. One of my favorite DJs was spinning. It was a pretty decent night.
And then this guy IMed me. This noobish guy who was hitting on me. But he wasn't quite noobish. His profile indicated that it wasn't his first time in SL. Great. An alt. An alt who had been TPed into the club by a bunch of LOUD, shelf-butt having, bling-wearing.....females. And if you just stopped to gasp, well here's a clue. Shelf butts are weird. And just..abnormal. Nobody LOOKS like that. There's a big butt, and then there's a shelf butt that you just rest a bowl on. And his name. Cisqo. Like..the thong song guy? Really? I laughed. A lot. But it was fun, so I went along with it.
Anyway.
So this guy IMs me, and he tries flirting HARD. But like I said..I was done. So I was as insanely difficult as any girl could get. He friended me, and for whatever reason, I accepted. He left the club, but we continued to IM. I teased him for being cocky. Told him he'd never have a chance with a girl like me. He laughed. He said I'd be addicted to him before this was all over. I said he'd be addicted to me. Funny conversation to have - but it's usual in club flirting.
Fade to black. Fast forward a few nights.
Same DJ, same club..and add in a creepy avi who'd been stalking me at various clubs (follow the DJ, find the girl) appared. And when Cisqo asked me if I'd like to come hang out at his house, I chose the lesser of two evils and accepted the saving TP. It was weird. I expected him to be buck ass naked..prim parts attached - the whole nine. But he wasn't. He was dressed (well) and sitting on his couch in a very (oddly) furnished home. Later, I would come to find out he bought it that way..which was good because everything matched TOO well.
But.
He was polite, he was funny, sweet and we talked about everything and anything. For the first time in a long time, I wasn't multi-tasking. I was just..hanging out with someone. Someone that saved me from a horrible stalker who was light years beyond annoying. Someone that didn't want anything from me..just my company.
At this point in time, I was starting to work with the Best of SL Magazine, I was fashion blogging, I was running Connected like a workaholic. I'd become an SL workaholic.
And one Sunday afternoon he IMs me and asks me if I'd like to go on a date with him.
I dodged. I said I was busy..I said I had so much to do..I tried my best - but he was relentless.
So finally, I told the ultimate lie. You all know me, right? I don't lie often. But I LIED flat out to this poor guy. You see I, Blissie Boucher, told Cisqo Cascarino..that I did not have anything to wear to a date.
I..the fashion blogger. I..the inventory queen. I..the shopaholic..
Did not have anything to wear.
I typed it and then almost died laughing at the absurdity of it all.
I was pose ball shopping with Aeryn and Kim..and I blurted my lie out in chat and they almost fell off of their chairs.
But like a gentleman, Cisqo said it was okay. He then proceeded to BUY me a dress and transfer it to me.
Now..I'd never had a formal dress bought for me in SL before. So I had to put it on and see what his taste was. If it was some kinda freebie looking piece of garbage.....someone was going to get bitchslapped.
But it wasn't.
It actually..was a beautiful dress. Not slutty..not tacky..not cheap looking. Just a classic red dress that really did look beautiful on me.
So I had to. I had to wear it..I had to tell him the truth. I had to go on the date with him. Because the effort alone had won me over.
He laughed - teased me a little for my lie. But he appreciated my honesty.
The date itself was a comedy of errors. The first club he chose to take me to slow dance was under renovations and it was basically a shell of a building.
Then he took me to the Savoy, where Kim and Aeryn were decorating for Halloween outside of the club.
Smartest idea to take a date to the club she spends almost all of her time..surrounded by all of her friends? Nah. But he didn't know that. He made a great effort to do things he thought I'd love. To chat up my friends..to show me a good time. He tried - and that alone was interesting to me.
And when the date was over, and he'd logged..I was left thinking..
Very few people in SL have ever dared to buy me clothes. And this guy did. This ballsy guy..who bought me a dress that I actually liked. So even if it didn't work out..at least I still had a new dress to wear, right?
This blog is too long now. But to make a long story a little shorter, I'll tell you this - I'm glad he didn't give up. That red dress is one of my favorites now. :) So's the guy that gave it to me.
XOXO,
Bliss

Go Purple Today!
Today is Global Epilepsy Awareness Day! In honor of this day, the color purple is being used for a variety of things. One event for Epilepsy Awareness Day is "The Great Purple Cupcake Project". Bakeries around the country (here in NYC, I've seen it at Magnolia Bakery - http://www.magnoliabakery.com/home.php) have put out special cupcakes decorated in purple frosting..with purple glitter..purple flowers..and proceeds are donated to the Anita Kaufmann Foundation (http://www.akfus.org/).
If your local bakery hasn't participated, you can still show your support by wearing purple and, if you can, donating to an epilepsy charity of your choice. One I've used is The Epilepsy Foundation (http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/). And if you have the time, why not whip up some cupcakes decorated with purple frosting..or heck, even some purple cupcakes - and share them with your friends and family?
:) I've got mine!
Dress: MichaMi: Kat in Pink Purple (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Copley%20Square/179/128/24)
Boots: Stiletto Moody: Black Croc
Necklace: Earthstones: Power Crystal - Sugilite
Cupcake from: 4Kittens of the Apocalypse - Giant cupcake! (purple frosting) (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Penning/74/109/78)

It isn't what you have in your pocket that makes you thankful....
but what you have in your heart.
Have a great day!

Pray for Japan
What's going on in Japan right now is mind blowing. An earthquake..then a tsunami..and now a potential nuclear threat? Crazy. It's almost more like a movie than reality.
While it's hard to find in SL - there is one reputable source for donating money to aid the quake/tsunami victims in Japan - the Red Cross. My heart goes out to everyone there, and to anyone who isn't there, but has loved ones affected.
https://american.redcross.org/site/Donation2?idb=0&5052.donation=form1&df_id=5052
There are a lot of different sims in SL trying to raise money and awareness - so check them out if you can. I spent a little time at La Triste Luna (http://slurl.com/secondlife/La%20Triste%20Luna/69/24/22).
There, I found the most beautiful rock garden. Four rocks with different words etched into them. Hope, Love, Dream, and Live.
Pray for Japan - the people really need it right now.

B

This Editing Your Name Thing..
Is a pain in the ass. People move on my friends list..from A to Z because they've changed their display name. I don't get it..why did you pick the name you did..if you were just going to change it?
Kudos to the people who have left their fricken names alone.
There's my rant for the month.
Hope you enjoyed it. :)
